Art is Kewl
I was driving home Friday from my event and as I always do, was looking around for inspiration for some designs. It got me thinking, the amount of art around us that we do not tend to notice is crazy. Its virtually everywhere, from signs, to logos, to murals to graphics and much more.
I often feel art gets neglected in a way, and people do not see it as something that you can necessarily do "for a living." Art has always been one of the most powerful ways we can express ourselves — through design, painting, music, movement, and a million other forms. Every single thing you see was designed by someone. The clothes you wear. The logo on your coffee cup. The cover of your favorite album. The golf hat you wear.
Art seems to be one of those things that people either love or kind of ignore. A lot of people grow up thinking it’s just a hobby, and sure it is but it can also be more then that. When people talk about “real jobs,” "art" somehow never makes the list.
People always ask me things like, “How do you draw like that?” or “How do you do this?” and that is great to hear, but I’ve been drawing and designing almost every single day since I was 17. It is not just talent. It’s time, reps, and a whole lot of passion, just like anything else. It's truly an addiction, and when you see it come to life its even more addicting. Sometimes I get caught in this mindset where I feel like I have to be the best, even though I know I’m nowhere close yet. But that’s what keeps me moving. The idea of quitting and wondering “what if” scares me more than any failure ever could.
I never look at any of my graphic design or art as "work." Its genuinely just something I love and am so passionate about. But it’s also something people can be scared to do. Scared to not be perfect at it. Scared it won’t “pay the bills.” Scared it won’t be taken seriously.
I started creating art because I loved it. I stuck with it because I realized how much it mattered — to me and to other people. Art has the power to tell stories, to connect people, and to make life more fun.
